Looking to get out of Cannon Beach for the day? Go north and check out these spots, just 40 minutes to an hour from Cannon Beach:

  1. Hop on US 101 and head north to Fort Stevens State Park in Warrenton to see the remains of the 1906 shipwreck of the Peter Iredale.

  2. Continue north to Astoria, the oldest town in Oregon. Drive up to the Astoria Column ($5 parking) for dramatic 360-degree views of the town, the Columbia River and the coastal mountain rangers. Visit the 36th Street Pier to watch (and smell!) the sea lions. Sample a cold craft beer (or two) at Fort George Brewery, Buoy Beer Company, Reach Break Brewery or Astoria Brewing.

  3. Drive across the mighty Columbia River on the 4-mile-long Astoria-Megler Bridge into Washington State and check out the old artillery batteries of Fort Columbia Historical State Park. Continue north to Cape Disappointment State Park to stroll around the old lighthouses.
