Where to get great coffee in and around Cannon Beach

Sleepy Monk in Cannon Beach will get you going in the morning.

Sleepy Monk in Cannon Beach will get you going in the morning.

For those who need/love/want coffee, there are plenty of places in and around Cannon Beach to grab a cup o’ joe. Here are a few of our favorite coffee shops:

  1. Sleepy Monk Coffee Roasters. Owners (and sisters) Rebecca and Rachel and their squad of baristas brew a mean coffee, which explains the long lines throughout the morning during the summer months. A Cannon Beach staple since 2000, Sleepy Monk, which opens at 8 am and is closed on Wednesdays, also offers a nice selection of baked goods.

  2. Sea Level Bakery & Coffee. Situated in Tolovana (South Cannon Beach) next door to the blue Surfcrest Market, Liz and Jason’s bright, beachy Sea Level Bakery offers up an assortment of scones, bread and a killer kouign amann. Interesting side note: Sea Level was funded in part through Kickstarter back in 2014.

  3. Insomnia Coffee Co. With three locations in Hillsboro in addition to the charming downtown Cannon Beach location, Insomnia serves up Dapper & Wise coffee, its own tasty roast by owners Evan and Tyler.

  4. Bald Eagle Coffee House. Starbucks fans will appreciate Tom and Laurie’s coffee shop in midtown Cannon Beach, which opened in the early 1990s. Be sure to try one of Tom’s marionberry scones.

  5. Manzanita News & Espresso. Head south from Cannon Beach through Oswald West State Park and across Neahkahnie Mountain into Manzanita, where owner Starlight Frost is serving up hot coffee drinks for locals and tourists alike. Enjoy a latte on the outdoor patio or browse the huge selection of magazines while sipping on your mocha.
