Best lighthouses near Cannon Beach and Manzanita
If you’re interested in checking out some of the notable lighthouses along the coast, there are four within an hour’s drive of The Inn at Arch Cape:
Tillamook Rock/Terrible Tilly: The closet, but most difficult to see up close, Terrible Tilly is about a mile offshore from Ecola State Park at the northern end of Cannon Beach. Built in 1881 and deactivated in the late 1950s, Tillamook Rock lighthouse is best viewed with binoculars or a zoom-lens camera. Today, the small rock formation upon which it sits is home to sea lions and a whole lotta seagulls.
Cape Meares Lighthouse: A little more than an hour drive south of The Inn at Arch Cape on Hwy 101 is Cape Meares, a beautiful inactive lighthouse on the Three Capes Scenic Route.
Cape Disappointment and North Head Lighthouses: If you’re heading north toward Astoria for the day, make a trip across the bridge into Washington to see the historic lighthouses at Cape Disappointment and North Head. Once across the mighty Astoria-Megler Bridge, take 101 toward Chinook and Ilwaco. Both lighthouses are in/just outside Cape Disappointment State Park.
